Tag! You’re it!

The 2nd annual collabeeration of Cape Breton Island’s organic on-farm craft brewery, Big Spruce Brewing, and Halifax-based global marine research group, Ocean Tracking Network has landed. Tag! You’re It! is a hazy and full-bodied modern IPA, with abundant late-addition Mosaic and Citra hops lending their hallmark citrus and tropical fruit notes. The moderate hop bitterness is perfectly balanced in this soft and deeply aromatic ale.

Fifty cents from every can sold supports research and conservation efforts like acoustic tagging of the mysterious electric Atlantic Torpedo Ray, directly impacting critical aspects of marine stewardship and public awareness. As for the name? It comes from an episode of The Rick Mercer Report when the host went on a shark tagging mission off the coast of Nova Scotia with OTN researchers.

Big Spruce Brewing

Cape Breton, Nova Scotia

Atlantic Canada’s only organic, on-farm brewery and hop yard. They brew unfiltered, unpasteurized, unbelievably good beer. Breton Fields is the certified organic farm where the bulk of Big Spruce’s brewing hops are grown. It was originally homesteaded in 1865 by Alexander MacKenzie and his family from Scotland, and it stayed in the MacKenzie family as a homestead and subsistence dairy farm and wood mill for 4 generations until Melanie and Jeremy White, the husband and wife ownership team behind Big Spruce, found it on the verge of ruins, in 2008.
